Thanks for the update! The main page says that 1.6 is released, but the "details" link goes to the wrong thread and not this thread.

I haven't gotten a chance to install it yet. What new screens are you talking about? Can you post screenshots? Use this site to host them, as it is free and easy:

finaly the speed bug is gone... When i set speed to 90 or more it will after some mins restart the phone... But in 1.6 it wont anymore! And vnes the bug is in vBoy 1.21 too... So it will be great if vampent remove the bug from vBoy too!
I love my N-gage, 6600, 6630, SE P910i, N80, N73, N95
and Vampent :)

A few things I noticed about this new version. First, the highest quality graphics mode is now fast enough on my N-gage to be playable in faster paced action games such as Super Mario Bros, Contra, etc. Before it was too slow and I had to use the "normal" graphics quality setting. It would be great if it got optimized a little more though, as it is still dropping frames. However, the new frameskip method makes it so that blinking sprites are not invisible, such as when you die in Contra or when you get hurt in Super Mario Bros.

Another weird thing that I noticed is after I removed vnes before installing the new version, but after I installed:
http://vampent.com/d.php?d=vnes.sis

...I went into the Application Manager on my N-gage QD, and I saw that there are two entries for vNes. Is this because one is a meta-package that installs the actual package matching the number of colors supported by the phone?

One last thing that is possible a bug. There is a graphics mode "to the right" or one step higher than "highest quality", called "empty". What does that do? Is it a bug, or a real video mode?

In conclusion, this version is a good improvement, especially because of the improved speed in highest quality graphics mode and because of the improved frameskip method.

Hmmm... I'm not so sure yet, but I think that this update runs slower on my device (N-gage). also, a funny thing happened when I installed 1.51 over 1.6... I lost all of my video modes. When I upgraded to 1.6, I also found out that my savestates didn't work anymore. So that's... Pretty weird.

Also, games like Gryzor (J) don't run. What really bothers me is that on my preferred settings (no sound, 256x224), the frames don't run a silky-smooth 60fps as in the last version.

about 1.6

Postby Shaxer on Sat May 21, 2005 8:40 pm

another thing:

shouldn't the 208x176 and -208x176 views be rotated? it isn't when the quality is set to Low.

Can everybody with the new version please download this ROM of the classic Sokoban game and tell me if they can get past the title screen?
http://www.pdroms.de/file_details.php?fn=936

It is a free, public domain NES game. It ran in previous versions, but I tried playing it last night, as it is a great classic puzzle game (along with other classics such as Tetris and Snakes)... but I was unable to get past the title screen. You used to be able to press START or maybe it was A, which started the game.

I am running it on an N-Gage in the default resolution, at the highest video quality setting, with sound. This brings up another point, we should start making a list of which ROMs from the latest GoodNES set do not work.

Another bug I noticed is in "Super Mario Bros 3 (U)", again from the latest GoodNES ROM set. Playing with the above mentioned settings, after about 60 seconds, the sound became distorted, soft, and much lower in pitch. Bring up the menu and then exiting the menu back into the game fixed the problem.

Why work on vNes which was already working good enough.

Fix the speed in vSun instead!

Ok, the bug with Sokoban needs to be fixed. Also, with regards to the comment on a new vNes as opposed to a new vSun. A month ago, Vampent released a new version of vSun. Now it is vNes's turn to be updated. Next it will be vBoy, and after that it will be vSun. Then repeat.

vNes still does not run at full speed and have full game support. Also, as seen in the posts above, it still has a few bugs. vNes is a great emulator and worth the price, but that doens't mean that Vampent can't make it better. They seem to be interested in updating all of their emulators.
